1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Coventra ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Service Description

Coventra is a web-based platform for systematic review and meta-analysis. The Service provides:

  • PDF text extraction and data extraction tools
  • Statistical analysis via R (meta, netmeta, metafor packages)
  • Risk of Bias and quality assessment workflows, including generic user-uploaded templates
  • GRADE evidence assessment
  • Collaborative review workflows
  • Export capabilities (CSV, JSON, RevMan XML, R scripts)

3. Research Use

For Research Purposes: Coventra is designed as a research tool to assist in systematic review workflows. All outputs must be validated by qualified researchers before publication or clinical use.

No Clinical Decisions: This Service is not intended for diagnosing, treating, curing, or preventing disease. Do not make clinical decisions based solely on Coventra outputs without independent verification.

AI-Assisted Features: The Service uses AI models (NLP, sentence transformers, spaCy) to assist with table extraction and text processing. AI suggestions require human validation. AI accuracy is not guaranteed.

4. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate registration information
  • Maintain the security of your password
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

5. Data You Provide

You retain ownership of all data you upload to Coventra (PDFs, extraction data, assessment records). By uploading data, you grant Coventra a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, and display your data as necessary to provide the Service.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensure you have rights to upload and process all data
  • Do not upload data containing personal health information (PHI) or personally identifiable information (PII) unless you have proper consent and legal basis
  • Comply with applicable research ethics and data protection regulations

6. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data
  • Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
  • Use automated tools to scrape or harvest data without permission
  • Overload or interfere with Service infrastructure

7. Intellectual Property

Coventra's software, interface design, and documentation are proprietary. The Service uses open-source libraries (listed in our Open Source Licenses notice). You may not copy, modify, or redistribute Coventra's proprietary code.

User Content: You retain all rights to your research data and publications. Coventra does not claim ownership of your systematic reviews or meta-analyses.

Uploaded Assessment Templates: Users are solely responsible for ensuring they hold appropriate rights to any assessment templates, questions, scoring rules, or related content they upload. Coventra provides generic data infrastructure only and does not endorse, reproduce, classify, or license third-party copyrighted assessment instruments.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with:

  • Supabase: Database and authentication (subject to Supabase Terms)
  • AI Processing API: AI-assisted table extraction (subject to provider terms)
  • Mozilla PDF.js: In-browser PDF evidence rendering and audit highlights
  • Syncfusion PDF Viewer: Legacy PDF rendering fallback (subject to Syncfusion Community License)

Your use of these integrations is subject to their respective terms of service.

9. Warranties and Disclaimers

No Warranty: Coventra is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • Accuracy of statistical calculations (always verify R outputs)
  • Completeness of PDF text extraction
  • AI accuracy for table detection or data pre-filling
  • Uninterrupted or error-free service
  • Protection against all security threats

Statistical Software: R packages (meta, netmeta, metafor) are maintained by the R community. We do not control or warrant their accuracy. Always review R script outputs and validate against published methodologies.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Coventra shall not be liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Loss of data or research time
  • Errors in statistical analysis or interpretation
  • Publication rejections or research setbacks
  • Decisions made based on Coventra outputs

11. Data Backup and Loss

While we implement reasonable backup procedures, you are responsible for maintaining independent backups of your research data. We are not liable for data loss due to:

  • Service outages or infrastructure failures
  • User error (accidental deletion)
  • Third-party service disruptions (Supabase, cloud providers)
  • Force majeure events

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, you may export your data within 30 days. After 30 days, we may delete your account data.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. Material changes will be announced via email or in-app notification.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of your jurisdiction. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration where permitted by law.
